Guillaume Poitevin arriva de France en 1855 pour prendre part, en tant que colon, à l’expérience fouriériste de Réunion (Texas). Il était accompagné par son épouse Anne. Après la dissolution de la colonie, il s’installa à Dallas pour fabriquer et vendre de la bière. Il repartit ultérieurement pour la France avec son épouse.
