Fils de Joseph, Julius Royer (voir ce nom), Joseph Royer jr participa en tant que colon, à l’expérience fouriériste de Réunion (Texas) aux côtés de ses parents. Durant la guerre de Sécession, il combattit dans les rangs confédérés.
